Central Carroll Soccer Club (CCSC)

What is the soccer season for travel players?

Fall season (late July through mid November) and a spring season (early March through end of May).  Many teams within the club also have a winter session of indoor soccer or futsal.  Our competitive teams commit to the full year program.

How many practices are there per week?

Depending on level of team, teams vary but usually will train 2x per week in the Fall and Spring.  Practices at the travel level are a commitment and expectation.  Players will not have opportunities to request practice times or attend practices with other teams. Parents often carpool to and from practices to ensure attendance.

How much does it cost?

A uniform Kit costs around $125 per player.  Player annual fees are $75 and League play depending on your child’s age, can be as low as $75 per season.  But will vary season, tournament involvement and age group of the team.  Individual coaches usually have an approximate of what a half or full season will cost.

What leagues do teams play in?

The younger Boys and Girls teams compete in the Central Maryland Soccer Association (CMSA).  The older teams may compete in CMSA, Baltimore Beltway Soccer League (BBSL) or Eastern Development Program (EDP).

What is the difference between travel and recreational soccer?

Travel soccer is a competitive training and match environment where players are expected to have a high level of commitment and interest in the game.  Teams are determined through a tryout process in May and will remain together training and playing throughout the Fall season and in to the Winter/Spring.  Players are evaluated at the end of each season and roster movement is possible among teams based on commitment and performance.  Recreational soccer is usually the introduction of soccer to young kids.  The focus is to keep it fun while making it a positive learning experience.

How far is the travel?

Teams will train/practice in the Finksburg area (Sandymount Elementary, Mechanicsville Elementary or Deer Park.  Matches for CMSA and BBSL will average 30-40 minutes of travel time to your opponent. The furthest can be just over 1 hour of travel time to your opponent.  Half of our league matches will be home and many of the away matches are at neighboring clubs. It’s typical in CMSA and BBSL to travel within Carroll and to Howard and Baltimore Counties. EDP may travel to further counties including up to 2 hours of travel time.

How are age groups determined?

Players are grouped according to their birth year.  Example: 2011 Boys is U8 for the 2018/2019 season.  2010 Girls is U9 for the 2018/2019 season.

How are teams chosen?

CCSC Coaching staff conducts all training and game-day coaching.  During the tryout process, the staff will determine the level of play for each player based on their performance, attitude, and commitment level.

What is the right age to begin travel soccer?

When the child has a strong ability in the game and a positive attitude toward playing and practicing on their own.

How many players per team?

U9-U10 play 7v7 and typically carry a roster size between 9-12 players.  U11-U12 play 9v9 and typically carry a roster size of 11-14 players.  U13 and older play 11v11 and typically carry a roster size of 14-18 players.

Who are the coaches?

CCSC Coaching staff is comprised of USSF, NSCAA licensed coaches with many years of experience coaching youth, middle-school, and high-school.  Our staff is growing and opportunities for coaches to get involved are available.  Coaching inquiries should be directed to Brian Henline, Club President.

ADDITIONAL EVENTS

  • Tournaments: Many teams participate in some weekend tournaments over holiday weekends like Columbus Day or Memorial Day. Tournaments may be local or in another region as determined by the coach. Tournaments typically cost around $50 per player.

  • Futsal:  During the winter season, some teams participate in a type of indoor soccer—called “futsal”. This is a modified version of soccer played with a smaller, weighted ball on a standard basketball court. Futsal has slightly different rules than a traditional indoor soccer.
